Droniac
I started The Game Drone as a means of sharing my views on PC gaming with fellow gamers, but soon it also turned into a gathering place for interesting articles and guides for gamers. Nowadays I blog about games to inform and help others, share my experiences and opinions, or simply to make conversation. If you want to know more about the blog, then visit the About page. On this page I’ll explain a bit more about myself, what my favorite games are and anything else I can come up with that might be interesting.
About Me
I’m a 20 year old Dutch citizen and aspiring writer, in English, because Dutch sucks. I’ve finished high school and had a go at studying for a few years, but eventually decided to work full-time instead.
My interests include just about anything related to anime, blogging, pc gaming, science fiction and technology.
I like to watch science fiction movies and tv shows, as well as similar anime shows, although fantasy is fine too. Not much of a fan of regular action and horror stuff though. As for music, I listen to all sorts, but my preference definitely goes out to Rock and Metal music. On that subject: I can’t stand Rap and Hip Hop music. Anyway, if you want to get to know me any better, then just head on over to the Contact page and… contact me.
Favorite Games
Having been a gamer many years, my list of favorite games extends well beyond just a few highlights. Even so I’ll try to limit it to just that. My preference goes out to genuine PC genres like First Person Shooters, Massively Multiplayer Online games, Role-Playing Games, Strategy games and Space-Sims - which is reflected in the following list of my all-time favorite games. So here goes, in alphabetical order:
- 10SIX - not just for being the first
and onlyMMOFPS/RTS/RPG, but also because it was plain awesome to play. Build up your base and army, sign pacts with local players, and start taking over swaths of lands from other players, in a vast conquerable world with 3rd-person hoverboarding! Nice! - Guild Wars - those long beta weekends were awesome. Had some great times with this game and it’s beta-testing community.
- Neverwinter Nights - the thousands of custom modules available for free make this the best value for money I’ve ever seen.
- Outcast - it’s impossible not to love this game! Amazing free-roaming, yet guided singleplayer gameplay. An immersive setting and storyline, brilliant soundtrack, fantastic gameplay and many major gameplay innovations that are still used by most shooters to this date. Too bad it never sold particularly well.
- Return to Castle Wolfenstein - the best objective-based multiplayer shooter ever created, no contest.
- Starlancer - an engaging singleplayer campaign with nice space combat and co-op mode!? Sign me up!
- Unreal Tournament - the best shooter ever.
- Unreal Tournament 3 - the only genuine successor to UT in 8 years time!
Gaming History
I’ve played many different games over the years, having started with online gaming in 1999 with Settlers 3. Before that I was already a fairly active offline gamer since roughly 1995, renting games like Doom 95 from the local library. Since then I’ve played a huge amount of PC games and competed in many of them. If you want to know more, then you can see my gaming achievements here and the clans I’ve been a part of here. If even that is not enough then you can always just contact me.
My Computer
A few weeks before The Game Drone went live on it’s new domain, I had purchased an entirely new gaming system. FiringSquad Editor’s Challenge
In early 2007 I participated in an editorial contest hosted by FiringSquad. After starting out with roughly 70 participants, in the end only 10 were left when I was eliminated, placing fourth overall, as the only non-native speaker in the top 10. My entries are still online, so you can read them here:
- 1st Round: Is PC gaming really that expensive?
- 2nd Round: Playing your G5 to the Max!
- 3rd Round: AMD Athlon64 3200+ - Still Capable!?
