It’s been over a month since the last Gamers’ Log, which is slightly more than I intended. Fortunately this also means I have plenty of games to talk about this time, so you can enjoy an exceptionally varied entry! I’ll also try to get the next Gamers’ Log in on the usual, roughly biweekly, schedule.
So I blog about PC games, but I bet you’re wondering what it is that I actually play. What do I do in between blog posts? That question will be answered every other week in the “A Gamers’ Log” feature. Think of it as a quick overview of the games I played and perhaps a small prelude to some of the entries to come.
Of course there’s plenty of room to discuss your own gaming habits for the past few weeks as well. So if you’d like to respond to what I’ve written, or add in your own list of cool (or horrid) games you’ve played recently, then by all means: do so! Note that in order to keep this entry somewhat manageable, I’ll limit things to just the main games I’ve played this past month.

Last week I reviewed the DeathMatch portion of the recently released Unreal Tournament 3 beta demo. Needless to say I’m absolutely in love with UT3 DeathMatch gameplay and have spent a fair few hours at it as of late. In fact, I’ll even be competing in a 2v2 tournament this weekend. But DeathMatch is not all there is to this beta demo.
The other game mode available in this demo is Vehicle Capture the Flag. While ‘introduced’ in Unreal Tournament 2004, this is the first time it will be a fully supported game mode. In all honesty I expected this game mode to be an utter and complete failure. I’ve never been much of a fan of vehicles in online shooters and this looked to be no different. Strangely, the beta demo changed my mind…
How? Why? Read on to find out!

After the Call of Duty 4 demo, Half Life 2’s Orange Box and Unreal Tournament 3 Demo… it’s not hard to miss the freshly released Hellgate London demo. As a new action/RPG in development by Flagship Studios, mostly comprised of the guys who did Diablo,
it’s certainly been met with an air of eager anticipation by many fans of Blizzards’ old hack & slash games.
Personally I’ve never actually played any of the Diablo games, and in light of the fairly mediocre trailers I was expecting to be thoroughly disappointed by this demo. Particularly with two great, genuine, RPGs releasing at the same time (NWN 2’s Mask of the Betrayer and The Witcher) this game certainly hasn’t been prominent on my games radar. So did this demo manage to sway me into the camp of believers, or would it prove to be the final nail in the coffin for my Hellgate London experience?

The Unreal Tournament 3 Beta Demo was released on Friday last week. You might have noticed a peculiar lack of posts, even recurring ones, during this period. Truth be told, it was the demo keeping me from posting. Yes, it’s that good… now go preorder.
Ok.. ok.. let’s go in-depth a little first shall we? Since I’m a longtime fan and veteran of the UT series, I’ve got so much to say about this that we’ll be splitting it into three or four entries. This first one will cover Duel, DeathMatch and Team DeathMatch as the competitive players, like myself, will see and experience it. In the next entry I’ll give some thoughts on Vehicle CTF and the last one will be about anything I missed, with maybe an entry on tweaking thrown in afterwards.

Every month we’re treated to a wealth of new games to play, but which ones are worth buying? That’s what I’ll try to find out, in the monthly recurring series of Most Impressive PC Games. So in the beginning of every month you can come visit this website, for a quick rundown of the latest and greatest titles, including links to official websites and game demos!
This time I’ll be covering the month of September, 2007 - a genuine beauty of a month for PC gamers. Where August kicked it off with the amazing BioShock and pretty damn good Guild Wars: Eye of the North releases, September looks to be the month to really kickstart a wealth of quality releases to finish the year in a loud bang of PC gaming bliss. We’ve got some great times ahead of ourselves, but for now - let’s look at what we already have, shall we?
