Screenshot Spotlight - December #1
December 5, 2007 11:19 pm Media, RecurringGames can be more than just a fun timesink; at times they are a thing of true beauty. This biweekly feature is dedicated purely to demonstrating the beauty of modern day gaming. So two times per month another Screenshot Spotlight will appear featuring some sort of beautiful, or otherwise interesting, screenshot I recently acquired.
However, rather than simply posting some pretty picture and leaving it at that, I’ll include a bit of information about the game it was taken in - and the circumstances of the screenshot. Think of it as an optional background story for you to read. If you don’t care for any of that you can of course simply admire the pretty pictures and be done with it!
Background:
This screenshot was made yesterday after an entertaining game of Capture the Flag with my new clan DooZeR - which Third Command decided to join. The CTF scene in Unreal Tournament 3 is still getting started, but hopefully our daily activity in both practice games and pickups will help jump start it a bit. Anyway the game was against clan RATS and went fairly convincingly in our favor. I was on defense and this went very well on this map of CTF-Reflection, as I kept shooting down flagcarrier after flagcarrier and they never got a cap off. Raked in quite a lot of flag returns, which resulted in a very high score. And just look at the pretty graphics! This definitely is one of the more beautiful CTF maps.
Game:
Unreal Tournament 3 has mostly been the focus of this blog in recent weeks, so you should probably be fairly familiar with the name by now. It’s Epic’s latest game - and has been received by fans of the series with mostly open arms. The gameplay is pure class, although much of the interface and server browser could use a significant overhaul, which is exactly what Epic is doing. Anyway - a great game that you really don’t want to miss out on, even if you suck at this kind of shooter! You can read more about the game here.
As for Capture the flag… well, everyone should know that game mode by now. It’s a simple matter of taking the enemy’s flag to your base and walking it over your own flag to score points, yay! In Unreal Tournament 3 it’s slowly starting to get off the ground, as more public servers start filling up and pickups become more and more frequent. Similarly a lot of new clans seem to have formed in recent days and various online ladders have seen their first UT3 CTF matches. So by all means, come join us in some good old new CTF!
